Scoliosis and Chiropractic Care

Scoliosis can be treated through chiropractic care. Scoliosis is a condition that affects the spine and often can be treated by a “scoliosis doctor” (scoliosis chiropractor). A reputable chiropractic doctor can provide pain relief therapies and spine manipulation care treatments to help improve the condition.

What is scoliosis?

Scoliosis is a back condition that affects both children and adults. Scoliosis is a “S” like curvature of the spine. Typically it is discovered in children between 9 years of age and 15 or 16. Scoliosis affects females more often than males.

As of yet, there is no known cause but it seems to be a hereditary condition. Starting out, symptoms do not include back pain; the main symptom of scoliosis is the curvature of the spine. As one grows older symptoms of scoliosis may include back pain. In the early stages of scoliosis symptoms, other than the “s” shaped curve of the spine, may not be obvious.

Scoliosis in adults may cause some back pain. Often mild scoliosis in adults can cause a dull back ache in the lower or upper back. Fortunately, the problem does not accelerate with age. The reason is that the spine doesn’t continue growing or developing as an adult. However, symptoms can begin to manifest themselves and worsen with time if the condition is left untreated.

Alternative Treatment Is Available For Scoliosis

Young children between the age of 5 and 12 are often screened for signs of scoliosis in elementary school. If a child is not screened for the condition in school, he/she should be checked by either family physician or a doctor of chiropractic care. The sooner scoliosis is discovered, the more likely a chiropractor can provide effective therapy.

In diagnosing scoliosis, a chiro care practitioner will examine the spine which may include taking x-rays, and having the patient show his or her range of motion by asking the patient to perform various stretches and movements. Depending on the severity of the spine’s curvature and the results of the diagnostics session, the chiro physician may request more in-depth diagnostic procedures to get clearer diagnostics of the problem.

Chiropractic treatment for scoliosis has had such great success. Many that suffer refer to their chiropractic care center as “scoliosis clinic”.

An example of lumbar scoliosis treatment from a scoliosis chiropractic care center could be adjustments on a regular basis and then add activity that includes lumbar scoliosis exercises.

Chiropractors And Scoliosis Back Pain

A chiropractic care doctor can usually offer treatments for spinal curves that are less than 20 degrees. Curves that are more than 20 degree may require more than just chiro treatment. It may require both chiropractic treatment and possibly a back brace.

Chiropractic adjustments help relieve compression from a poorly aligned spine, exercise can strengthen the muscles, and stretching can relax the muscles. This combination of care can provide overall balance for a healthier spine. Chiropractic adjustments make a huge impact on the joints to regain what should be a normal range of motion.

Exercise and Massage For Scoliosis

Along with back adjustments, scoliosis, treatments could be effective stretching and resistance exercises to strengthen the muscles around the spine. This will help keep the spine in alignment after each chiropractic adjustment.

Scoliosis can become a debilitating condition if left unchecked. If someone has had the scoliosis for a long time it will be more difficult to bring balance to the spine, however, do not delay in receiving treatment any longer. Find a chiropractic care center with doctors that understand scoliosis and have experience in effectively treating it.
